Crystal Care

When it weighs heavy it is time to cleanse and reenergise

Just as our crystals take care of our energy so too must we take care of theirs. Crystal Care, CC, is here to provide the necessary information to enable you to keep your crystals looking and working just as beautifully as the day you got them. Our CC page has been carefully put together to help you properly care for your crystals and keep them in tip-top shape.

As with all living things that provide energy there is two types of care to consider: the physical keeping of the crystal and the spiritual cleaning and recharging of your crystal. We aim to provide options for both sides of your crystal care. So are dependent on the type of crystal and some are also easy for those who are busy or for the Novice in all of us. We aim to keep this as uncomplicated as possible.

Spiritual Care

Cleansing & Charging your Crystals

To get the most out of your crystals it is important that you charge them regularly.

Why do I need to charge my crystal I hear you ask, good question!

Many people use crystals for healing purposes, these stones of power absorb the negative energy of anyone or anything that they come into contact with. Regular cleansing is a way to press the reset button and return your crystal to its natural state - keeping them functioning at their best. This it is often referred to as ‘clearing’. Think of it as re-fueling for your crystal - they get a little tired too.

Charging your crystals can seem somewhat overwhelming when initially beginning your crystal journey but it doesn’t have to be. There is a wide variety of ways in which you can charge your crystal, no method is better than another but it is important to be mindful of the properties of the specific crystal you are wanting to charge ( Use the button below to view our Crystal Archive page), for example does it cope with water or salt? Will sunlight damage it?

The crystal’s properties will help guide you towards which methods will best suite them and their purpose. It can be helpful to know which element the crystal is associated with for example black obsidian is associated with earth and grounding, as such it may benefit from charging it in the ground. This theory should always be used in conjunction with the properties of the specific crystal you are working with, for example selenite is associated with water however should not be charged in water as it is a very soft crystal which can be damaged and even dissolve over time if exposed to it.

Cleaning, Handling and Storage

In addition to taking care of the energies of your crystal, it is important to look after them in a physical sense too! Understanding your crystals physical properties is the key to their physical care! What we refer to as crystals can actually be made of wildly different materials from volcanic glass and hard stones, to soft minerals to various metals. It's also rare for a crystal to be purely one material, most have a mixture of substances or are made of largely one with traces of another inside, like Lapis Lazuli that has golden flecks of pyrite. This means care and research is needed to properly care for each crystal as their needs vary depending on what they are made from. Some cannot handle water or excess light, while others can be washed or left in the sun. This also means that storing your crystals properly is important to protect both their physical and spiritual properties. Finally there are some crystals that naturally contain or are made up of toxins, like lead, for this reason it is important to read the safety guide on our terms and conditions page before handling or cleaning your crystals. Below you will find more details and advice on how to do just that!
